Should You Fear
Anthrax is front-page news nowadays. People are scared. Theyíre frantically buying antibiotics as a safety measure. The military considers anthrax to be the most serious biological threats. Anthrax spores are so small they are essentially invisible as well as odorless. When inhaled, the disease is usually fatal and can kill.Antibiotics are the standard treatment. However, once symptoms appear, treatment is usually too late. "High dose antibiotic treatment after symptoms appear can lower the death rate from 99% to only about 80%," says Dr. Joseph Mercola, a physician who hosts a popular Internet website.
While many people are afraid, I donít fear anthrax. I have no need to fear. In spite of the fact that exposure to anthrax is very unlikely, I have a secret weapon that protects me from harm even if by chance I do encounter the beast. What is this weapon that shields me from harm? Itís a healthy immune system.
"The first line of defense is a healthy, vibrant immune system," says Dr. Mercola. "Anthrax, or any natural pathogenic agent, cannot overpower such a body. Sickness may occur before the bodyís defense system comes into full play, but the body will eventually win out over anthrax and defeat its spread. Compromised immune systems will likely fail to defeat an anthrax invasion."
Our immune systems are designed to take on and destroy any disease causing organism nature can throw at us. Best-selling author, Bernie Siegel, M.D. says "There is no disease in which someone hasnít been able to overcome." Many diseases such as eboli, bubonic plague, or anthrax can have a high death rate, but people who have been exposed to these diseases, even without drugs or medical attention, have recovered. Why? Because their immune systems were able to overcome the disease.
Why is it that dozens of postal workers were exposed to anthrax, yet only a few became ill? It is the same reason why you can work in an office with ten other people all day, every day and some will come down with colds and others wonít. The strength of the immune system determines your susceptibility to disease.
If you have a strong immune system you can be exposed to high levels of disease causing bacteria with no ill effect. This has been demonstrated time and time again in hospitals where doctors and nurses have worked with patients dying from highly contagious diseases, yet they remain unaffected.
There are steps you can take right now to build up your immune system and protect yourself from anthrax or any other disease-causing organism. A strong, efficient immune system, not only protects us from infectious disease, but helps prevent degenerative disease as well.
The first step you should take is to avoid things that put unnecessary strain on the immune system, such as excess stress, using tobacco, taking drugs, and eating junk foods. Candy, pastries, chips, soda and coffee are junk foods. Sugar depresses immune system function and so sweets should only be consumed in moderation, if at all.
There are several things you can do to strengthen your immune system. Getting a full night sleep and regular exercise keeps the immune system in shape. Eating wholesome foods and taking dietary supplements that support the immune system is another vital step you should take.
Wholesome foods are those that have gone through as little refining or processing as possible. White bread, for example, has had most all of its nutrients removed in processing and in my opinion is a junk food. The best foods are whole wheat bread, brown rice, and other whole grains, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh meats are fine too, but cured meats such as hot dogs, salami, and pepperoni contain too many chemical additives and preservatives, all of which are toxic and must be neutralized and eliminated by the body. Foods that contain a lot of additives only burden the immune system.Dietary supplements provide many vitamins, minerals, and photochemical that promotes good health. Herbs, such as those in JC Tonicģ, help to clean toxins out of the body thus relieving stress on the immune system. The body then is better able to protect and repair itself. I eat good, wholesome foods and do those things that build my immune system. Since I started living this way I havenít had a single day of illness, not one. Itís been years now and Iíve been around some very sick and contagious people. My immune system protects me. Thatís why Iím not worried about anthrax. You need not fear either if your immune system is in shape.
